8-OHdG, One of the Most Well Researched Markers of Oxidative Stress; indicating risk for cancer, cardiovascular disease, and dementia, in one snap-shot

It is a shame that 8-OHdG is not more routinely measured. It is a marker that goes up when there is more damage to the DNA. We all know mutations in the DNA are a launching pad for cancers, but also cardiovascular disease and diabetes. One of the fundamental things that increases the risk of a pathology, or gene expression of pathology, is oxidative stress measured by 8-OhdG.

A patient may feel they are getting plenty of antioxidants if they eat them through diet, or they consume beverages such as green tea daily. Of course, diet is a necessary first step. But for many people, especially when they are experiencing pathology, what we get from our diet does not control the free radicals that the pathology is generating. Calming down 8-OhdG decreases risk of the diseases mentioned above, but also improves mitochondrial function. Decreasing 8-OHdG can help improve energy, reducing fatigue, and also reduce symptoms in people who struggle with detoxification.

8-OHdG, as a marker of oxidative stress is a foundational assessment of a process that effects many diseases as well as the process of aging. It is not until it is normal range that the patient has achieved optimal levels for improvement of wellness in so many areas.1
